Grosso da 6 denari imperiali in the name of Frederick II. Bergamo Republic (13th century), AR 2.03 g. FREDERI / CVS – IMPRT Laureate bust r. based on the model of the gold augustalis of Messina and Brindisi (issued from 1231). Rev. (Vertically) PGA – MVM (P with horizontal bar for PER) Church façade surmounted by cross with four towers at sides, and four arches above rocks (synthetic image of Bergamo ‘alta’). CNI 138. According to Lorenzelli (CNB, passim) this type of grosso da 6 denari imperiali was issued after the death of Frederick II (1250), between 1260 and 1265.
