Gallienus BI Antoninianus. 'SPQR Mint' or Cyzicus, AD 253-268. GALLIENVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right / ROMA AETERN, Roma seated left on shield, holding victory and spear; SPQR in exergue. Cf. RIC V, Part I, 655; Göbl 1546Ac. 4.09g, 21mm, 5h.

Fully silvered, well centred, Extremely Fine. Excessively Rare in this condition and among the finest known.

RIC ascribes all SPQR exergual pieces to the 'Asian Mint' and Göbl put these at more defined under Cyzicus.

Ken Elk considers SPQR issues to be the 'final issue of Antioch', Göbl places them at Cyzicus, RIC ascribes all SPQR exergual examples to the 'Asian Mint', furthermore there are later workers (Gysen and also Mairat) witch are placing the SPQR issues under the mint of Smyrna initially and later at Cyzicus on the basis of similarities with provincial issues with Smyrna early on and later Cyzicus because of the letter C that appears in the mint signature during the reign of Claudius II.

The lack of over mint signatures allows for a wide degree of interpretation of mint centres in this period and is fraught with alternative opinions.
