Vitellius BI Tetradrachm of Alexandria, Egypt. Year 1 = AD 69. Laureate head right / Nike flying left, holding wreath and palm; LA in left field. Emmett 196; RPC 5372 (18 specimens). 12.86g, 23mm, 12h.

Near Very Fine. Rare.

Vitellius' reign at Alexandria lasted only about two months, from c. May 69 when news of his victory over Otho on 16 April reached Egypt, until 1 July 69 when Vespasian was proclaimed Augustus at Alexandria, making coins struck in the city during this period particularly rare.
