CHINA. 100 Yuan Pattern, 1982. Panda Series. NGC PROOF-65 ULTRA CAMEO.
32 mm; 12 gms. EXTREMELY RARE. A little known brass pattern for the first 1 Ounce gold Panda series. This issue shares the same obverse design elements as the medallic coins we know today, but with the denomination of 100 Yuan next to the seated panda. The reverse, while used on other commemoratives later in the 1980s and early 1990s, was never adopted for the bullion series. This pattern displays the date below the Great Wall on reverse. Exceptionally nice for the assigned grade, with noticeable mostly transparent tone enhancing the overall appearance of the coin. A seldom offered pattern in superlative condition, and with significant relevance to the formative years of modern Chinese numismatics. NGC PROOF-65 ULTRA CAMEO.
