Ferdinand VII gold Escudo 1808 So-FJ XF45 NGC, Santiago mint, KM76. Well preserved with good details, pleasant orangish old toning throughout and no distracting handling evidence. Interestingly, whereas new punches featuring the imaginary bust of king Ferdinand VII were produced by the Santiago mint for the highest denominations of gold 8 Escudos and silver 8 Reales, the minor coins in both gold and silver all featured the bust of Charles IV. A handsome and well-pedigreed example of the first date of this elusive type, rare in any grade and very desirable in this attractive quality.Ex. Norweb Collection.
