Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Christian Ernst gold Ducat 1694 AU Details (Repaired) NGC, KM72, Fr-373. Obv. Armored bust of Christian Ernst right. Rev. Crowned arms. An exceedingly rare issue and we can find no recent offering of this piece in any listing. This example has a nice strike, with considerable remaining original mint luster, but the field appears to have been smoothed behind Christian's head. The repair is not particularly egregious, and the overall appearance does not suffer appreciably. The rarity of this piece far outweighs the slight obverse repair, and any collection of Brandenburg needs this type to be complete. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $3500 in VF, $6500 in EF.
