PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (170-116 BC). AR tetradrachm (25mm, 13.92 gm, 12h). Salamis, dated RN 33 (138/7 BC). Diademed bust of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis / ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt; in left field, date L ΛΓ; in right field, mint mark ΣΛ. SNG Copenahagen 577 (same dies). Svoronos 1543. Scarce mint for this ruler! NGC graded Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. NGC gives the regnal year as 53 (118/7 BC), which would be the case if the date is viewed as a ligate ΝΓ; however it is more probable in our view that the Greek characters shown are ΛΓ and the date is Year 33 (138/7 BC).

Estimate: 800-1100 USD
