Hyderabad. Greenwood & Batley Copper ND (1905/06) Three-piece Set of Coining Press "Proving Pieces" ND (ca 1905/06), 2 Annas - MS62 Red & Brown NGC1/2 Rupee - MS63 Red & Brown NGCRupee - MS62 Brown NGCStruck by the English firm of Greenwood and Batley at their Albion Works, Leeds. They were made circa 1905/06 in association with an order placed for coinage presses destined for the Nizam of Hyderabad's mint. Presses were ordered for striking Rupee, Half-Rupee, Quarter-Rupee, and 2 Anna coins. The manufacturer made dies equivalent to the size of these coins and struck a few samples of each on the new presses. The pieces so produced were "Proving Pieces" intended to display the excellence of their equipment.From the David Vice Collection
