James VI gold Rider 1595/4/3 AU50 NGC, Seventh coinage, S-5458. A stunning example of this classic Scottish issue minted in the last decade before James' accession to the throne of England. It is evenly struck on a fully-round flan and exhibits lovely surfaces with traces of residual mint bloom. The double-overdate is unusual, but this obverse die exactly matches a 1594/3-dated example which we sold in our September Long Beach Auction 3042 (Lot 25717), with the exception, of course, of the recut "5."From the RichLyn Collection
