Australia
New South Wales. Colonial 15 Pence (Dump) 1813 VF30 NGC, KM1.3. Mira-D/2. A very popular world type coin, this is the first coin struck in and for Australia, produced from a cut Spanish colonial 8 reales. The inner portion (of which this is an example) circulated at a value of 15 pence, whereas the outer portion (colloquially known as a "holey dollar") was fixed at 5 shillings. Though not nearly as desirable or valuable as its larger counterpart (which often sells well into the six-figures) the "dump" is still highly collectible. Often found in rather low grade and corroded condition, this example is actually quite appealing for the type. To give illustration to that fact, Heritage last sold an example in September, 2014, where an NGC VG Details (Environmental Damage) piece still managed to sell for $5,200. Some scattered marks and planchet issues, this piece still has very good details, with a relatively bold crown on the obverse. All in all a more than adequate example for the type.
Estimate: 15000-18000 USD
