João V gold 6400 Reis 1734-B AU53 NGC, Bahia mint, KM151 ("Rare"), Russo-134, Gomes-130.02. 4 sup th /sup Shield Type. An attractive coin with only slight high-point friction evidence and generally strong luster throughout, while the few noted contact marks are as expected for the designation. Quite a handsome representative of this extremely rare date and certainly among the very finest extant: no specimens have been previously offered by us and the Norweb coin (Spink America 3/1997, lot 745 and described as "cleaned") is the only other example noted by the cataloguer in recent years.
