Central American Republic gold 4 Escudos 1837 CR-E MS63 NGC, San Jose mint, KM16, Fr-2. Choice Mint State with strong mint bloom and free of distracting handling marks, as expected for this lofty technical grade. Struck from late-state, rusty dies with a die break running through the date on the obverse and granular yet essentially unmarked fields. Slight flatness are noted on limited parts of the Ceiba tree and mentioned for accuracy. The aforementioned use of late state dies appears logical since documentation of the era indicates that coins of this type and date were struck up to 1841. Currently the single second finest certified example of the date by NGC - with only three coins noted as higher for the type - and among the very few Mint State specimens available of the entire issue, thus certain to attract strong bidding activity.
Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
