Central American Republic gold 8 Escudos 1837 CR-E AU50 NGC, KM17, Onza-1750 (this coin). Struck over a small-diameter flan (not unusual for the date, see following lot) yet very attractive for the assigned technical grade with substantial remaining mint bloom and reasonably sharply rendered details on the centers, albeit weakly struck in part of the outward legends. Traditionally rated as the rarest date of this elusive and highly popular series, with only 2,029 coins minted including both varieties with "E" and "F" assayer initials. One of only two coins currently certified by NGC - the other an AU58 example - and thus an important opportunity to acquire a well preserved example of this elusive date, with an excellent pedigree to boot.Ex.
