Republic gold 1/2 Onza 1850-JB MS64 NGC, San Jose mint, KM100. Choice Uncirculated with essentially full mint luster and nearly unmarked surfaces. Part of the 1857-1858 batch of coins minted of this type, with the late die-state identified by a semi-circled shaped die break at the bottom of the pedestal below "1821" on the obverse and more granularity on the dies mostly visible on the Indian Liberty's back leg. A remarkable example of the regular business strike of the issue - with the usually flat areas in the centers resulting in all probability from the force of the mint press being eased -, both easily the finest seen by the cataloguer and the finest currently certified by NGC (by six (!) grades) and likely unsurpassable in technical designation. As such, a most desirable coin that should elicit serious attention.

Estimate: 6000-7000 USD
