Costa Rica
Republic gold 10 Pesos 1876-GW MS63 NGC, San Jose mint, KM123, Fr-17a. Choice Mint State with highly reflective surfaces, mild handling marks well within the confines of the assigned grade and the usual slightly grainy surfaces resulting from the use of rusty dies. A truly superb example of this rare one-year type (official mintage is a mere 3,389 pieces) and a strong candidate for finest known, with no finer examples either seen by the cataloguer or currently certified by NGC. The other noted choice piece, the ex-Hammel/Meyer coin (Spink Smythe 10/2008, lot 1230 for $8,750) was struck from later state dies (without dots after the letters in the GW initials and evident die breaks at 6 o'clock through the date on the obverse and 3 o'clock on the reverse) while a much lesser specimen in AU55 NGC certification hammered at $6,250 as lot 23423 in our 1/2014 Signature Sale. Certain to elicit strong bidding competition and a worthy addition to the most select cabinet of Costa Rican coins. From the Pura Vida Collection, Part I

Estimate: 10000-12000 USD
