Menelik II silver Specimen Pattern Birr EE1892 (1899) SP66 PCGS, Paris mint, Gill-M4var. Without Privy Marks/ Raised Lettered Edge. Only the second example we have seen of this extremely rare pattern, with the present example being the finest by a three grade margin. Amazingly preserved, this coin contains all the positive attributes that contribute to a truly world-class coin. The design is sharp and fully rendered, while shimmering prooflike gleam in the fields confirms the coin's special production. The tone, indicative of careful placement and long-time storage inside a cabinet, is undeniably luxurious, with mostly blue-green color at the edges and a mixture of alluring copper-gold mauve and maroon accents in the centers. Inspection with a loupe confirms the grade, and if anything, to the naked eye, the surfaces appear pristine. For the collector of world crowns, an opportunity that, put bluntly, should not be missed.
