Great Britain
James I gold Rose Ryal ND (1605-06) AU55 PCGS, London mint, Second coinage, Rose mm (rather than cinquefoil, as implied by the date range on the PCGS insert), S-2613, North-2079 (R). A magnificent gold coin for this era, this example remains remarkably preserved, with few noteworthy surface marks and a soft-reddish patina. The king's portrait retains excellent details and the reverse is particularly sharp. Traces of residual mint bloom are noted throughout, though most clearly in the legends, interesting in this second coinage as James styles himself king of Great Britain, despite that title having been denied him on legal grounds by the House of Commons in early 1604.From the RichLyn Collection
