William III gold 5 Guineas 1701 AU55 PCGS, London mint, KM508, Fr-310, S-3456. DECIMO TERTIO edge. Second laureate (fine work) bust. Obv. Laureate head right. Rev. Crowned cruciform coats-of-arms around coat-of-arms of Orange; scepter in each angle. Highly lustrous surfaces, with a light tone near the peripheries. The appellation for this bust type as 'fine work' is clearly on display with the luxurious rendition of William's hair, as well as his stoic gaze. The reverse features decorative scepters surmounted by elements emblematic of the realm: an orb for England, a harp for Ireland, a thistle for Scotland, and a lis for France---to that day still claimed by the English princes despite over three centuries of unsettled disputes at that time.
