Great Britain
George IV gold Proof Pattern 1/2 Sovereign 1825 PR63 Ultra Cameo NGC, Royal mint, WR-248 (R5). Bare bust, plain edge. An extremely rare piece, we have been able to find only five auction records of the type going back to 2003, with the most recent one being a Heritage auction in 2007. That piece, graded, PR63 Deep Cameo by PCGS, hammered at an impressive $8,500. In the interim years the market for high-quality British proof gold has gone up a tremendous amount; in some areas as much as two or three times previous prices. With a very pleasing and problem-free piece on offer now, and with no other example of the type having been sold publicly anytime recently, we expect strong competition. From the RichLyn Collection
