USA Administration Mule 5 Centavos 1918-S MS61 PCGS, San Francisco mint, KM173, Basso-113a, Allen-4.08b. The shield on the reverse is much wider and the date smaller than the normal 5 Centavos. A key issue of the United States Administration in the Philippines, made on accident and obviously corrected shortly after discovery, with the pairing of a 5 centavos obverse die and 20 centavos reverse. Even after this snafu was discovered at the mint, it's apparent that a small number of pieces exited the mint and reached circulation and a tiny number were put aside and have survived in Mint State. This example is fully lustrous, with light golden toning. The reverse strike shows slight weakness on the shield, and minor handling marks are noted. Very rare in Mint State.
Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
