Sigismund III Vasa Taler ND (1587-1632) XF40 NGC, uncertain mint, Kopicki-1296 (listed as a Taler), H-Cz 10297 (as gold 10 Ducats), Kurpiewski-1675 (Taler of 18.7gm), Zagorski-306 (2 Talers), this example weighs 38.6gm AR. Obv. Bare-head, draped bust right. Rev. Crowned arms, with Vasa arms in the center. Gold 10 Ducat examples of this exact design can be found in Vienna and at the National Museum in Warsaw. The lack of a chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece on the reverse shows that this was produced pre-1604. The obverse surfaces are quite grainy, with digs and scratches, and a small collector stamp in the left obverse field. The reverse is noticeably double-struck. Extremely rare, and possibly the only example extant in this weight. The only previous offering we can note was in the Antykwariat Numizmatyczny Auction 1, October 2010, Lot 3.
Estimate: 30000-40000 USD
