Mary gold 44 Shillings 1553 AU55 NGC, Edinburgh mint, First period under the regency of James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran, S-5394, Burns-6 (cf. Fig. 813). An exquisite example of this variety, defined by IG to either side of the obverse arms (for Iacobus Guberbator, the regent), cinquefoils to either side of the Maria Regina reverse monogram, and pellets to either side of the initial mark on the reverse only. Hints of reddish tone have settled upon bright surfaces with few noteworthy abrasions.From the RichLyn Collection
