Charles I gold Unite 1637 MS62 NGC, Briot's coinage (third coinage), S-3351. A spectacular example of a Briot issue of Scotland, identified here by the thistle and "B" following the obverse legend. Having been struck from a somewhat aged die, there are scattered areas of die-rust throughout, but the surfaces remain remarkably bright and lustrous, lacking any significant marks or abrasions. The portrait of Charles exhibits excellent details, typical of the quality of Briot's presses, as do the reverse arms. A prize for the connoisseur. From the RichLyn Collection
