Geneva. Canton Shooting Festival 10 Francs 1851 MS65 NGC, KM138. A popular shooting issue that is avidly collected because of its large size. The present piece however stands out above all others we have seen in terms of quality. Tone-free surfaces allow for impressive cameo contrast over both sides, with the raised designs displaying considerable frost, while the flat fields are pleasingly reflective. Unlike most examples that survive, very few instances of handling are seen; a considerable feat for an item this large that, because of its weight alone, is more prone to dings. As previously mentioned, easily the finest we have seen and NGC agrees - of the 15 examples NGC has thus far graded, this piece is the sole MS65, with none designated finer. Thusly, an item of undoubted significance for the collector of noteworthy world type issues.Ex. Rarcoa (3/1985, Lot 803).
