The Dutch Republic. Zeeland. Undated, but 1584. Medal (Silver, 45mm, 60.11 g 12), on the assassination of William of Orange, unsigned but by H. Klaassens. SÆVIS TRANQVILLVS IN VNDIS (rosette stops)(= calm in the midst of rough waters) Kingfisher flying to its nest, floating on waves; above, in legend, tower. Rev. LVCTOR ET EMERGO (= I struggle and swim through; motto of Zeeland) Crowned shield bearing the arms of Zeeland within a border of shields bearing the arms of the cities of the province. Van Loon I, pp. 339-340. Beautifully toned. Rare in this heavy weight. Nearly extremely fine.
