The Dutch Republic. Westfriesland. Medal (Silver, 51mm, 43.55 g 12), on the expansion of trade and farming in the United Provinces; unsigned but by C. Wyntges, 1617. VERRIT TVRBIDA NAVTA ÆQVORA (=the bold pilot sweeps through the turbulent waters) Ship sailing to left, with two others in the background; below, arms of Westfriesland dividing 16 17. Rev. AVIDI SPES FIDA COLONI (=the certain hope of the industrious farmer) Milkmaid milking cow to left within a fenced farmyard. Cf. Van Loon II, p. 55 (but there dated 1609). A lovely, toned example. Extremely fine.
