SICILY
Syracuse. Circa 470 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20mm, 8.30 g 6). Nude and bearded horseman riding to right, leading a spare horse on his left. Rev. ΣΥΡA - KOΣ - ION Head of Arethusa to right, wearing necklace and pearl diadem, her hair tied up in a krobylos that is bound up and falls over the diadem; around, three dolphins swimming clockwise. Boehringer 98 (same dies). Rizzo p. 34, 23. SNG ANS 26 (same dies). A rare coin of lovely style, beautifully toned and perfectly centered. Some surface roughness, otherwise, extremely fine.
