Syracuse. 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24mm, 17.27 g 2), c. 450. Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding goad in his right hand and the reins in both; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, ketos to right. Rev. ΣΥRΑΚΟΣΙ - Ο - Ν Head of Arethusa to right, wearing a pearl diadem, a simple drop earring and a pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Boehringer 519.2 (this coin). Dewing 801(= Boehringer 519.6). SNG ANS 167 (= Boehringer 519.3). Attractively toned. Nearly extremely fine.
