Ionia, Uncertain mint EL Hekte. Circa 600-550 BC. Milesian standard. Figural type. Forepart of bridled horse left, legs forward in running motion, and mane flowing behind / Quadripartite incuse square. Weidauer -; Traité -; SNG Kayhan -; SNG von Aulock -; Rosen -; Elektron 1 corr. (horse "head"); Triton XII, lot 311 (same obv. die). 2.41g, 11mm.

Very Fine. Extremely rare with horse forepart.

Though the forepart is traditionally seen with a wing, and therefore rightly that of a Pegasos, the lack of a wing on this example clearly shows that this is not the case. The specimen sold at Triton XII showed rather more clearly the bridle, confirming the identification of this as the forepart of a horse.
