Kingdom of Macedon, Alexander III 'the Great' AR Tetradrachm. 'Amphipolis', struck under Kassander, Philip IV, or Alexander (son of Kassander), circa 310-294 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left, holding sceptre; in left field, Λ above torch; monogram below throne. Price 495; Ehrhardt 30; CNG MBS 81, 20 May 2009, lot 317 (same dies). 16.69g, 28mm, 1h.

Good Very Fine. Flan crack, a few marks on obv., wonderful deep old cabinet tone.

Although having the form of an N set on a bar, as opposed to the more usual ligate ΔI, Price indicates that these monograms are synonymous and shows both in the plates, 495a and 495b.
