BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, ENGLAND, Thomas Sharp, (1751-c.1813), mercer and draper, Portsmouth. He partnered with his brother-in-law, Thomas Chaldecott in an earlier run of tokens in 1794, Copper Halfpenny (5), 1797, obv Neptune placing laurel wreath on the head of a man, lower edge of the mans coat forms an irregular line, only a couple of ripples in the water (3), rev SR. JOHN JERVIS WITH 15 SAIL PURSUED & DEFEATED THE SPANISH FLEET OF 27 SAIL OF THE LINE FEBRUARY 14th. 1797, PURSUED correctly spelt, 1 of 14th straight, edge plain (D&H Hampshire 63a); rev SR. JOHN JERVIS WITH 15 SAIL PURSUED & DEFEATED THE SPANISH FLEET OF 27 SAIL OF THE LINE FEBRUARY 14th. 1797, 2 of 27 under second limb of H of THE (2), edge PORTSMOUTH HALFPENNY PAYABLE AT THOS SHARPS .X. (D&H Hampshire 64), edge plain, in collar (D&H Hampshire 64a); obv lower edge of the coat forms a nearly even line, the water consists of multiple ripples, rev SR. JOHN JERVIS WITH 15 SAIL PURSUED & DEFEATED THE SPANISH FLEET OF 27 SAIL OF THE LINE FEBRUARY 14th. 1797 (2), edge PORTSMOUTH HALFPENNY PAYABLE AT THOS SHARPS .X.
