BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, WALES, Parys Mine Company,Thomas Williams, (1737-1802), attorney and businessman, part owner and managing partner of the Parys and Mona Mine Companies of Anglesey, Copper Halfpenny (6), 1789, all edge PAYABLE IN ANGLESEY LONDON OR LIVERPOOL, obv Druid's head left within thin oak wreath, twenty-four acorns in wreath, leaf stems long and with minor protuberances, leaf stem on right is nearly straight and has four spurs (2), rev P M Co cypher, 1789, THE ANGLESEY MINES HALFPENNY, 1 points just to left of second limb of second N of HALFPENNY (Atkins p.280, 194; D&H Anglesey 370); rev 1 points just to right of second limb of second N of HALFPENNY (Atkins p.280, 195; D&H Anglesey 371); obv leaf stem on right has two spurs (2), rev 1 points just to right of first limb of second N of HALFPENNY (Atkins p.280, 196; D&H Anglesey 372); rev 1 points to right of second limb of second N of HALFPENNY (D&H Anglesey 373); obv leaf stem on right has one spur (2), rev 1 points to first limb of second N of HALFPENNY (Atkins p.280, 197; D&H Anglesey 374); rev 1 points slightly to right of second limb of second N of HALFPENNY (Conder p.4, 24; Pye p.3, 6; Atkins p.280, 198; D&H Anglesey 375). D&H 375 with a few rim bruises, otherwise nearly very fine, D&H 370 with brush marks, otherwise good extremely fine, others good extremely fine, many with substantial original colour, D&H 375 very rare, D&H 373 exceedingly rare. Williams effectively gained control of the entire operations of the Parys Mountain and, later, the Cornish Metal Company, giving him a near monopoly over the development and production of copper and the copper trade in Great Britain.
