BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, WALES, Samuel Solomon, (1745-1819) doctor, Tythebarn Street, Liverpool, Imitation Copper Penny, by John Westwood Jnr, dated 1788, obv Druid's head facing left within thin oak wreath, twenty-four acorns in wreath, twelve to left and twelve to right, no acorns inside of wreath flanking the base of the bust, acorn to point of hood, four acorns at tie, rev P M S cypher, 1788, WE PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ONE PENNY around, edge ON DEMAND IN LONDON LIVERPOOL OR ANGLESEY (Conder p.3, 13; Atkins p.272, 113; D&H Anglesey 168). From the fractured obverse die, good extremely fine and with original colour remaining.
This token was likely struck in 1796 and the cypher, PMS, is suggested to represent "Potion Maker Solomon".
