BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, SCOTLAND, John White, (1751-1803), sold liquor and groceries in Leith, Copper Halfpenny (2), 1796, obv ship under sail to right, small boat in front, fort in the distance, SUCCESS TO THE PORT OF LEITH, triangular flag on look-out of fort, arches on top of wall, rev female seated left, a wand in one hand, pair of scales in the other, PAYABLE AT THE HOUSE OF JOHN WHITE KIRK-GATE LEITH, wand points between O and U of HOUSE, edge plain (Conder p.66, 20; Pye p.26, 9; Atkins p.315, 50; D&H Lothian 58); obv without flag on look-out, cannon on top of wall, rev wand points to E of THE, edge plain (Conder p.66, 19; Pye p.26, 10; Virt p.210; Atkins p.315, 49; D&H Lothian 59). Generally good extremely fine with some colour remaining. (2)
