BRITISH 18TH CENTURY TOKENS, IRELAND, Associated Irish Mine Company, Bronzed Copper Halfpenny, 1789, obv bishop's head right, CRONEBANE HALFPENNY, stop after HALFPENNY in line with foot of Y, point of crosier just below centre of first N of HALFPENNY, end of upper ribbon points between N and Y, rev shield of arms, ASSOCIATED IRISH MINE COMPANY, handle of windlass touches second limb of R, straight 1, tail of 9 aligns with first limb of O of COMPANY, edge PAYABLE AT CRONEBANE LODGE OR IN DUBLIN X (Atkins p.354, 17; D&H Wicklow 18). Nearly as made.

The Associated Irish Mine Company was formed in 1787 to mine copper in the region. There were nine original founders, including William Roe of Macclesfield. One of the company operations was the Cronebane Mine located across the river from the copper works of Ballymurtagh which was then being developed by the partnership of Messrs Camac, Kyan and Camac.
