ABBASID: al-Rashid, 786-809, AR dirham (2.32g), al-Muhammadiya, AH180, A-219.9a, Lowick-1734, citing salâm above & mahbub below reverse field, 6 annulets on obverse, creased and discolored, possibly contemporary fourrée, VF, RR. Michael Bates has suggested that all versions of the al-Muhammadiya mint with special word or name above or below reverse field (or both) were struck at a different mint also called al-Muhammadiya, likely in Armenia. This is a tantalizing theory that will gain attention as further research is accomplished.
