Ras Tafari (Haile Selassie) gold Mule Presentation Werk EE 1921 (1928) MS62 NGC, Addis Ababa mint, Gill-RT8. Plain edge. Accomplished by the muling of an obverse pattern die for the silver 1/8 Birr and the reverse die for the Menelik 1/32 Birr. This gold striking presents an obverse portrait of a crowned Ras Tafari along with the familiar Lion of Judah reverse motif. Likely struck long after the intended period of usage for the dies, as both the obverse and reverse displaying pebbly die rust (as made) within the fields. It is said that Haile Selassie presented these pieces to dignitaries and favored individuals, and this attractive Mint-State example is absolutely engaging as such.
