Italy, Africa; Medallion for recognition of the Italian General of War against the Turks in Africa 1856-1927; 37mm diameter, almost uncirculated by Loriol; He was born in Pontremoli 17 November 1856 . Enlisted in the Royal Army , weapon artillery , in 1887 he became part of the Corps Staff . On 26 January 1902 he was promoted to the rank of colonel , and assumed command of the 91st Infantry Regiment. [1] In 1904 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the VIII Corps . In 1908 he was promoted to the rank of Major General , [2] and in 1911 he left for the Italo-Turkish War . In Libya he distinguished himself as commander of the garrison of Homs, [3] for having participated in the conquest of Mergheb and Lebda (27 February 1912) [2] and the subsequent defense of Derna . [4] During the conflict was elevated to the rank the general Lieutenant for merit of war, and was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Savoy military . The May 16, 1912 he left the command of the Brigade "Parma" to assume that the Brigade. "Messina" [5] [6] For his exploits in Libya May 4, 1913 his fellow citizens solemnly handed him a Pontremoli a "d 'sword honor ", during a ceremony held [7] at the Teatro della Rosa , the presence of numerous civil and military authorities.
