Antique gold coin pin. This antique pin is comprised of four 22kt.gold one-half escudos surrounding a 22 kt. gold one escudo from Spain. (75.38 mm x 24.26mm, 14.02 g)These coins were made into this setting more than one hundred years ago, and it is from an estate. Gold coins like these one are often found on ship wrecks, and are called gold doubloons. These were minted in Madrid and Seville in the 1780's. The coins by themselves when you can find them bring a very good premium, much less mounted into a setting like this. The back has a gold stick pin that is on a hinge and fastens at the opposite end. This is a wonderful piece of history in an old, possibly Victorian setting. .
