World Medals, Spain, Philip II (1527-1556-1598), The Conquest of America, Copper Medal, undated, signed IAC.TRICI.F., armoured bust right, with ruff collar, wearing badge of the Golden Fleece, PHILIPPVS II DG HISP REX, rev hands release knot holding globe to yoke, SIC ERAT IN FATIS, 31mm (cf MI 148/118; Attwood 95; Pollard, Bargello 726; vL I, 387; Arm I, 242, 6). Nearly very fine.
For many years the medal has been designated to the Defeat of the Spanish Armada [1588], whilst the attribution to Jacopo da Trezzo was diputed because of the unfamiliar signature IAC. TRICI. F.. Attwood now confirms both the designation and the attribution. (250 - 350 GBP)
