George V. 1910-1936. Æ penny. 9.78 gm. 30 mm. Heaton Mint, Birmingham. 1919 H. His bare headed bust left; GEORGIVS V DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX FID DEF IND IMP around / Britannia seated right; ONE - PENNY around; 1919 below with a small H to the left. S. 4052. Peck 2256. Freeman 186. Good Extremely Fine; even brown tone, particularly well struck, both sides, glossy surfaces.

The Frank Robinson Collection.

The 1918H and 1919H and the 1918 KN and 1919KN pennies show a faint outline of the obverse portrait in the reverse field. The result, in addition to the effect on the field, is loss of detail on Britannia. What happened? This seems a design characteristic of this issue-the portrait requires more metal to fill the die and the reverse suffers. London issues of this type show the same characteristic.
