George V gold 10 Dollars 1912 MS66 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM27. Extremely elusive quality for the premier date of this short-lived type, with few examples meriting Gem classification and even fewer qualifying for the lofty MS66 grade. In fact, only five pieces have reached this level at PCGS, with 2 of those five also having the "+" grade modifier. Upon close inspection, the reason for such a high designation on this piece becomes resoundingly clear, as the fields possess a luxurious satiny appearance that is nearly free of post-strike contact. The design detailing also lives up to the grade, with pinpoint definition through George V's portrait, as well as in the corresponding reverse arms. On both sides, several coppery blushes are observed, and ensure that this piece is as original as they come. As an elite example of the largest circulating gold coin of Canada, a coin that certainly has a special collector appeal. From the Schroeder Collection of Canadian Coins
