Costa Rica
Republic brass Pattern 50 Centavos 18-- (1873) MS61 NGC, San Jose mint, KM-Unl. Plain Edge. The rarer of the two brass formats for the issue, struck on a planchet that more exactly matches the diameter of the dies and produced using a plain edge collar instead of the more often seen reeded edge one. Fully detailed, yet lightly handled as the grade suggests, the brass surfaces show a touch of speckled brown toning on the upper portion of Costa Rican arms, while muted luster exists the fields. The first we have seen of the type, and an excellent companion piece the previous lot; together ideal for the numismatic historian that intends to showcase their collection.Ex.
