Great Britain
George II gold 5 Guineas 1748 AU50 NGC, Royal mint, KM586.2, S-3666. Old laureate head, V. SECVNDO edge. A lightly circulated example of this ever-popular issue, crisply struck and retaining nearly all of the fine engraving. Numerous but tiny surface marks are splashed throughout the fields, fully expected for a gold piece of this size which circulated, however briefly, and in fact mercifully light in their severity. The only flaw of note is a hollow in the third quarter of the reverse arms, which appears to be a natural planchet flaw and primarily affects negative space, leaving the relief of the devices in that quarter of the shield clear. A very pleasing example overall and an asset to any cabinet of milled British gold.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
