Ancients
IONIA. Uncertain city. Ca. 650-600 BC. BI imitative 48th stater (0.45 gm). Nearly XF. Blank, globular surface / Incuse square. Cf. Rosen 281 (blank EL 24th stater). Rare, apparently an ancient counterfeit in mostly base metal intended to look like electrum. An analysis by NGC of the metal in this piece indicates a content of 64% CU (copper), 31% AR (silver), 3% ZN (zinc), and 1% FN (for FE = iron?). This amalgamation likely had a yellowish tint when made and was probably meant to pass for electrum.
Estimate: 150-200 USD
