HONG KONG. Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation. 5 Dollars, 1891. P-138. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. Small Splits; Minor Stains.
This lot resembles one of the most significant rarities we are offering in this highly comprehensive selection of notes from Hong Kong. This 19th century item is only the second we have handled for the design type and rarely is seen in any form. Printed by Barclay and Fry and seen with a large format design with arms at top center and ornate protectors at upper left and right. Back seen printed in a deep red hue with arms again flanked by numeral "5" counters. The note overall is found with great body for the grade with pleasing color throughout. Some small splits at the margins is observed along with a few minor stains as mentioned where the Apparent comments are on the PCGS holder. However, this is the finest we have handled, and according to population reports that we have come across, we believe it to be the finest known example as PMG has only certified a Fine 15 Net that was repaired and had Rust Damage. Those netting defects are not present on this stunning example. Gorgeous hand drawn signatures are also present in the signature panels. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. Small Splits; Minor Stains.

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
