CHINA. Manchukuo. Order of the Auspicious Clouds, Second Class Set, ND (Instituted 1934). NEARLY MINT STATE.
Barac-529, 530; Li-143; Peterson-254; Werlich-784, 785. Includes: the 90 mm eight-pointed silver Breast Star with yellow, red, white, black and blue enameled badge superimposed. The reverse bears two fixed and one hinged tunic pin, and a four-character Chinese inscription. The 62 x 95 mm Neck Badge has a white enamel cross with a yellow point on either side of each arm, a blue cloud on a black base in each angle of the cross. The central medallion is yellow and is surrounded by a translucent red enamel ring. The badge is suspended from a gold orchid blossom with yellow enamel petals. The reverse of the suspender bears the same four character inscription as the star. Of note is that this Badge bears the Osaka mint mark at the top of the suspension ball, indicating that this set is of the earlier production of this Order. The Cravat is approximately 480 x 38 mm and is of pale blue watered silk with a red stripe near each side. The set is housed in a black lacquered hinged-top wooden box with a gold orchid and six character inscription on the lid. There is a small spot of discoloration to the white enamel of the lower arm of the cross on the Star as well as a minuscule crack to the enamel in the same arm. The Neck Badge has lost about 20% of the yellow enamel at the center, and there is lesser damage to the enamel of the surrounding translucent red ring. The clasp of the wooden case is missing. Other than the mentioned defects, this RARE and attractive set grades NEARLY MINT STATE.

Estimate: $3500.00- $5000.00
