KOREA. Grand Cordon of the Order of the Plum Blossoms, ND (Instituted 1900). EXTREMELY FINE.
Barac-19, 20; Peterson-217; Werlich-822. The Breast Star is 93 mm across at the widest points and is in the form of a three-pointed, four-rayed white enamel star with three white enamel plum blossoms between each of the compound arms. Superimposed on this is a plaque of 32 gilt-edged red enamel rays with a blue and red enamel Taeguk at the center. The reverse is plain gilt silver with 4 characters, "Order of Merit Decoration", arranged in a square at the center. There is one hinged and two fixed tunic pins on the reverse as well. The hanging badge is 78 x 108 mm and of similar design, except both sides are enameled and there is a hanger in the form of a three-leaved plum blossom. The front and back of the hanger differ in that the front has normal veining in the leaves, but on the reverse the veins are replaced by the same four characters that appear on the back of the Star. The 115 x approximately 880 mm Sash, which includes a bow, is in red watered silk with faded yellow borders. There is also an 8 mm red and white plum blossom rosette. All the components are housed in their original hinged and fitted wood and cloth display case with plum blossom clasp, which is in need of very minor repair. The enamels on the breast Star are fine and complete except for a series of about 20 miniscule cracks to the white enamel of the longest ray of the lower cross point resulting from a bump to that ray which also bent it slightly inward. The badge has mostly complete enamel except for one tiny void on the top white ray on the reverse, and a few minor surface chips to the white on both sides. Also, the blue enamel of the Taeguk on both sides appears a bit dull compared to the Taeguk on the Breast Star. Finally, the pin holding the main part of the badge to the hanger has been lost, but that will be an easy fix. Other than the noted defects, the Star and Badge both grade EXTREMELY FINE.

Estimate: $9000.00- $12000.00
