Anerley Bicycle Club, (1888), prize medal in silver (39x45mm) with suspension ring, in the shape of a cross the obverse is intricately engraved with a central shield bearing the name, 'B/Anerley/C', reverse inscribed, 'One/Mile/Tricycle Handicap/K.E.Edge/2nd/June 27th/1888'. Good very fine. Provenance - Reported in The Mercury, Hobart, Tasmania on Saturday 19 March 1892 that Messrs K.E.Edge of the Sydney Bicycle Club (NSW) and Anerley Bicycle Club (London) and J.W.Keeling of the Ramblers' Bicycle Club (Hobart) started at Oatlands to ride the 50 miles road race. Mr Edge, riding a pneumatic tyred 'Marriott and Cooper's Safety' set the fastest time for this distance in Tasmania and Mr Keeling, riding a cushion tyred 'Raglan' set the fastest time for this distance by a Tasmanian cyclist. K.E.Edge was at one time the General Secretary of the Anerley Bicycle Club and is no doubt related to S.F. Edge who was President of the same club in 1929 and was an outstanding rider for the club even as an 18-year old back in the 1880s. Ex John Houstone Collection.

Estimate: 100 AUD
