Army presentation fob, (1912), in 9ct gold (5.53g; 34x42mm), by J.M.Wendt, with suspension ring, obverse, voided design with crown at top and shield in centre, reverse inscribed, 'Presented to/Major. R.R.Baldwin/from/No.4 Troop 17th A.L.H./13-7-12'. Very fine. Provenance - Reginald Peter Baldwin was in charge of 1st Jamestown Squadron of 17 ALH (South Australian Mounted Rifles) before transferring to 24 ALH (Flinders) where, as Lt Colonel, he was appointed Temporary Commanding Officer on 16 August 1914. He volunteered for WWI service at the age of 54 and was appointed Lt Colonel on Sea Transport Service. The above gold fob was presented to him on his departure from 17ALH.
